There are many different ways for alumni to stay involved with the University of Ballarat.
Advisory Board
The School of Business has an external Advisory Board which is currently chaired by Dr David Haymes. The Board meets with the Head of School and nominated staff four times each year to discuss a range of issues and activities that inform the School’s strategy, operations and development. Whilst the board has only advisory functions it provides an invaluable sounding board for strategic development. The following individuals currently make up our enthusiastic and knowledgeable board:

Guest Speakers
Offering to act as a guest speaker or lecturer is one of the many ways in which mutual benefits can be gained through continued interaction between the School of Business and its Alumni Community. Alumni members can provide a way for the University of Ballarat to maintain connections with regional, national and global industries. They can assist us in introducing students to experts in their chosen field who can make the important linkages regarding the value of the education and training in specific industry contexts.
Examples from the Contemporary Tourism Issues Series As part of the Contemporary Tourism Issues series, Campbell Gome, Manager of Market Research at Tourism Victoria, delivered a guest lecture on the relationship between research and market performance and new strategies being developed to provide local tourism area data for Victoria's regions during October 2004.
Video conference technologies were utilised by Clive Dwyer, Manager of Tourism Marketing for the Melbourne Commonwealth Games, to deliver his presentation entitled: Leveraging the Tourism benefit from Mega Events with particular reference to the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.

Course Promotion
As a graduate of the University of Ballarat you could make an invaluable contribution to the University’s course promotion, marketing and careers advice activities.
Our Alumni are potentially our best ambassadors and an important marketing instrument for the University of Ballarat. Students generally speak very highly of their association with UB.
There are many ways you may be able to participate in our marketing activities, particularly in relation to course promotion. You may be able to refer potential students to us, distribute brochures through your networks, present at one of our course information sessions or agree to be profiled in information such as our brochures, newsletters or via our website.
Student Placements
At the University of Ballarat many of our courses incorporate professional placements in business, industry and government organisations.
Professional placements help students integrate their theoretical leaning into the complexity of workplace practice in a planned, structured and reflective way.
Benefits for Students Through placements students:

Research Grant Information
The University of Ballarat has a history of high-quality and innovative business research.
Collaborative research is an increasingly significant feature of research in the School of Business. With support from industry partners the School of Business has been able to generate remarkable improvements in research activity over the last five years.
From an industry perspective, major benefits identified include accessing specialist expertise; improved capacity to solve problems; and ‘industry focused’ research training.

Scholarships
University of Ballarat Scholarships The University of Ballarat Postgraduate Research Scholarships - Scholarships are offered for full-time study for Masters by Research, PhD’s and Professional Doctorates within the University’s nine Schools: Arts; Business; Behavioural and Social Sciences and Humanities; Education; Engineering and Occupational Health and Safety (VIOSH (Australia): Human Movement and Sport Sciences; Nursing; Information Technology and Mathematical Sciences; and Science.
School of Business Bachelors Degree Scholarships The School of Business offers a limited number of study grants for its undergraduate programs. Click here for further information to access application forms for study grants which are available for study in 2005. Applications for 2008 Study Grants are now open.
Centre for Regional Innovation and Competitiveness CRIC is actively involved in a range of research projects that address how regional economies, innovation systems, and communities are sustained in an increasingly competitive and connected environment. From time-to-time scholarships are available for higher degree by research positions in areas including regional business development; sustainable community development and small and medium sized enterprises.
